Questions

The things people ask us first.

How is this different from an outsourced accountant or bookkeeper?

An accountant records what already happened and files it. We run the finance function forward - management information, forecasting, scenario planning and board-ready reporting - led by a board advisor. Most clients keep their accountant for compliance and use us for everything above it.

Do we have to change our accounting systems?

No. Powdr connects to what you already run - Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Dynamics 365 and FreeAgent. It also reads data straight out of Excel, PDF and PowerPoint files, and pulls filed accounts from Companies House. Nothing needs ripping out, and there’s no migration project.

If you run several entities they do not all have to be on the same system. We can consolidate a group with Sage in one company and Xero in another, so you don’t have to standardise the ledgers first.

We have no finance team at all. Is a board advisor enough?

The board advisor is not doing it alone. The software does the heavy lifting - it connects to your ledger and builds the model from your own actuals - and the wider Powdr team runs the month behind it: management accounts, reconciliation, the reporting pack. What the board advisor gives you is someone senior enough to interpret all of it and tell you what to do about it. That is the whole point of the combination: you are not paying senior rates for routine work, and you are not left on your own with a dashboard.

We already have a bookkeeper or a part-time FD. Does that still work?

Yes, and it is how a lot of our clients run. Whoever you have keeps what they do. We add the board advisor above them and the analytical work underneath - the modelling, the forecasting, the scenario work, the board pack. The aim is to give the person you already have better numbers to work with and more time to use them.

What is the minimum commitment?

There’s an initial term set out in your order form, after which it moves to a rolling monthly arrangement. You can flex your level of support up or down on 30 days’ notice.

How quickly will we see something useful?

You can be up and running within 24 hours. The first milestone is a working financial model and a clear picture of your numbers - then monthly reporting and check-ins from there.

Is our financial data secure?

Yes. We’re ISO 27001 certified, data is hosted on AWS in the UK, and encrypted at rest and in transit. Our independently monitored security posture is published in our Trust Centre.

What does it cost?

A whole finance team for the cost of a fractional finance director, on a day rate scoped to the support you need. The pricing page sets out how it works.
